Abstract

Aims: This study examines the Psychometric properties of the personality questionnaire (POSHEN) among Iranian militaries.

Methods: This is a descriptive-survey study. The statistical population of this study includes all the Iranian military in the year 1392. The statistical sample included 200 militaries from various military units and were randomly selected. The Personality Characteristics questionnaire (POSHEN) had been prepared by reviewing the valid tools of the personality assessment and basic theories. Also, the long form of the NEO was used as a criterion-related validity.

Results: The results showed that POSHEN has well-validated Cronbach's alpha for 8 factors ranged from 0.68 to 0.88 and the 0.95 for total. The test-retest reliability of the total score was also significant (0.633). The concurrent validity of the questionnaire revealed that the eight operating factors had a strong and meaningful correlation between 0.77 (Extroversion scale) and 0.919 (Responsibility Scale) with POSHEN’s total score. The POSHEN’s criterion-related validity with the NEO-FFI showed that the 8 Factors of POSHEN have a high and significant criterion-related validity with the five factors of NOE’s.

Conclusion: This study shows that POSHEN has suitable psychometrics properties to assess the personality characteristics of the Iranian militaries and it could be also useful for the selection, promotion and research activities.
