Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this study was to compare functional injuries of upper limbs, quality of life and general health between athlete and non-athlete militaries, with emphasis on classification of functional injuries of upper limbs.
Methods: the research method was descriptive that 120 martial men (60 men were non-athlete and 60 men were athlete) were randomly selected in 2011. The data collection was done by 4 questionnaires including demographic information, quality of life (Short Form health survey: SF-36), General health (GHQ-28) and functional injuries of upper limbs (The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire: DASH-38). Analysis of data was done by T tests using SPSS 17 software.
Results: The average ages of athletes and non-athletes were 36.22±3.11 and 35.81±4.03. The average weights of athletes and non-athletes were 70.74±7.41 and 69.29±6.95. The athlete martial men had better quality of life and general health, and also had less functional injuries of upper limbs than non-athlete militaries (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: sport activity in health stations can lead to increase in quality of life, general health along with decrease in functional injuries of upper limbs in martials. Hence, we suggest sport doing in daily programs of the martial.
