The Relationship Between Parenting Styles With Mental Health and Academic Achievement in Children of Military and Nonmilitary Families

Abstract

Introduction. The main purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between parenting styles with mental health and academic achievement in children of military and nonmilitary . Material and Methods. Four hundreds students and parents (father and mother) participated who have been randomly selected from the boys and girls students population in fourth region of Tehran (100 boys and 100 girls from military families and 100 boys and 100 girls form nonmilitary families) . they completed two questionnears: 1) Goldberg General Health Qustionneare 2) Bamrind Parenting Styles Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by t-test and chi-square method. Results. Results of analysis data shown that mental health and academic achievement in children with similar pattern of parenting styles m ore than mental health and academic achievement in dissimilar patterns of parenting styles . Between parenting styles military and nonmilitary families there is no significant difference. Discussion. result show that increase information parents specific military fathers cause soberness respect to their education method at their children that cause they decision better about their children education.
