The Six-year Study of Landmine Limb Injuries in the Mine Action Personnel in Baqiyatallah Hospital

Abstract

Introduction. One of the cases following multiple trauma after casualties in a military hospital is the injuries caued by mines, which happens in landmines following demining procedures most of the time and leads to rapid transfer from the scence. In spite of several treatments, such victims face severe complications. Material and Methods. In this descriptive research, injured victims of landmines who were transfered to Baqiyatallah hospital during the years 1376-1382 have been studied. Type of injuries, their severity and complications were recorded. The Result were extracted from questionnaire and analyzed by program. Results. In these six years, 34 injuried soldiers (25 Military Pasdar and 9 Soldiers) injuried by mines in the demining procedures and transfered to the emergency ward of the baqiyatallah hospital were investigated for the kead-torso and limb injuries and their complication. The aim of this study was evaluation of prevalence of injured organs in mine-sweeper group and ways to reduce numbers and severity of the injuries. Discussion. Most injuries were as follows according to their prevalance: eye, mandible, ear, limbs, abdomen, thorax, and vesseles. but the most severe injuries were related to eyes and then limbs amputation and face which is possible to reduce these consequences with proper management and equipment.
