Abstract
Enzymes are high molecular weight protein biocatalysts that have garnered significant attention for their extensive use in maintaining and enhancing health, particularly within the realm of military medicine. Military personnel, due to the nature of their missions, their presence in high-risk areas, and their exposure to specific chemical, biological, and physical threats, face unique injuries such as trauma, burns, and chemical warfare agents. These circumstances necessitate specialized and effective therapeutic and protective solutions. Given the limitations of conventional therapeutic and protective methods, investigating the role of enzymes as innovative and targeted tools has become particularly essential. Enzymes, with their ability to decompose toxic compounds, accelerate tissue repair processes, and provide active protection against chemical and biological agents, can serve as an effective alternative or complement to existing methods. Therefore, the aim of this review study is to systematically and comprehensively examine the role of enzymes in military medicine, including their contributions to the prevention, protection, and treatment of common injuries encountered in battlefields. Research indicates that enzymes play a crucial role in the treatment of combat wounds, nerve injuries, and the neutralization of chemical agents. Furthermore, the application of enzymes in the development of smart protective clothing could significantly enhance the safety of military personnel and improve advanced protective strategies against chemical and biological threats. The findings of this study suggest that the utilization of enzymes may lead to better therapeutic outcomes, increased safety for military personnel, and the advancement of innovative defense technologies. Despite the existing advancements, the further development of related research and technologies could pave the way for enhanced medical and preventive services for armed forces in the future.
